| Name: | Tim Drake-Markov/Robin |
|---|---|
| Birthdate: | 09-13 |
| Location: | Gotham City, New Jersey, United States |
Age: 15
Robin's History: Tim Drake entered into The Batman's world willingly, as a teenager who had grown up idolizing the Dark Knight's exploits. In the beginning, Tim's life wasn't easy-he lived with his dad, Stephen "Shifty" Drake and did so up until Two-Face wanted him dead; from then on, Tim mostly lived on his own while doing whatever was necessary to stay alive. However, Two-Face still wanted to find Tim's dad and figured the best way was through his son. Enter Batman.
The Dark Knight saved Tim's life and took him to the Batcave, where he met Alfred. Tim discovered who Batman was by sneaking up the stairs to the main manor, walking around-and taking a few belongings-which led to him discovering a portrait of Bruce and his parents. That's when Tim met Batgirl, who promptly took him back to the Batcave and he was relieved of said stolen belongings. Tim was told by Batman himself that his father had already been found dead; Tim was notably upset by this news but knew that his father would never have come back for him anyway. It was during Batman's next encounter with Two-Face that Tim would make a bold decision-becoming the next Robin! Initially, Batman wasn't pleased with this decision but figured if Tim really wanted it that badly, he was going to make him work for it.
Since then, Tim has always tried to follow Batman's rules-otherwise known as his maxims of battle:
Never take, sacrifice, fail to aid, or in any way endanger another human life.
Never give up on a friend, ally, mission, case, or worthy cause.
Never go into battle without careful planning or hesitate to extract yourself from battle if additional planning is needed.
Never tell anyone you love them. They might die.
(The last one is an add-on from Batman's eight-year-old self, a rule which he himself might not be consciously aware of.)
Tim's adventures as Robin were eventful and memorable ones. When Robin first encountered Clayface, he met him through his 'eyes'-Annie, a girl who appeared to be around his age but was only created by Clayface long enough to find out if it was safe for him to make a reappearance. Robin had told himself-and Annie-that he would protect her no matter what, but Annie ultimately sacrificed her freedom by saving his life and merging back with Clayface. In an instant, Robin furiously attacked his foe, demanding that Clayface bring her back. When told that she was gone, Robin continued attacking until Batman arrived and got him to safety.
Tim was eventually told the story-by Dick Grayson himself, otherwise known as Nightwing-of how the original Batman and Robin team split apart after Nightwing had helped Robin out when it came to arresting some robbers. Tim looks up to Dick as a role model since he was the first Robin prior to his appearance; he looks up to Bruce as well, but since Bruce rarely ever shows emotion it's hard for Tim to collaborate with his mentor except for when they're on the job.
Robin didn't just get to hang out with Batman, Nightwing and Batgirl-when Bruce had gone missing for an unknown amount of time, he met Superman who had to pose as Batman since the criminals were running rampant; Nightwing and Batgirl had gone to Romania to track down Ra's al Ghul, but Robin couldn't pronounce his name fully when he explained to Superman where they'd gone-he'd said it was 'Ghoul-something.' Naturally until Superman came in, this left Tim alone to protect the city during a major crime wave. Tim eventually met Static in Dakota City during another mission that involved the Joker. Robin and Static clicked right away but it took some time before the latter would be accepted by Batman. During another mission that involved Static working together with Batman, he'd asked where Robin was at. Batman's response: "With the Titans. You'll meet them someday."
Sadly, Tim's adventures as Robin came to an unexpected and tragic end during Batman's final encounter with the Joker. During a routine patrol, Robin responded to a call for help not knowing that he'd been led into a trap. The Joker kidnapped, tortured and brainwashed Tim for 2-3 weeks; he'd held on for a very long time but eventually Tim had been forced to reveal Batman's secrets and then was transformed into 'Joker Junior.' Despite being put through all that trauma, Robin's loyalty was ultimately to Batman and the mission as he was the one to finally kill the Joker. It had taken Leslie Thompkins, a psychiatrist and close friend of Bruce's, about a year but she was able to bring Tim back to sanity.
Bruce forbade Tim from ever being Robin again, blaming himself for what had happened. Tim left soon enough afterward, determined to make it on his own. 40-50 years passed since then, and Tim had readjusted to civilian life rather well-he'd gotten married, became a top communications engineer and had a couple of kids. A part of Tim had hoped, during his youth, that he would eventually succeed Bruce and become Batman but that wasn't meant to be. When Tim had finally met the new Batman, Terry McGinnis, he told him that he'd given it his all but it just 'hadn't been enough for the old man.' That wasn't the last time Tim would see Terry, however.
What none of them had ever found out, at least not until Terry confronted Tim in an abandoned candy factory, was this: back when Tim had been captured by the Joker, the Clown Prince of Crime had used cutting-edge genetics technology and placed his consciousness and DNA on a microchip; he then implanted it into Tim's brain during that time. The Joker had remained dormant for the 40-50 years Tim had been a civilian, needing time to adjust to his body. Whenever the Joker would take control of Tim's body the latter would just contribute anything that was done to bad dreams. Eventually the Joker would be strong enough to inhabit Tim's body permanently. Thanks to Terry destroying the microchip that ultimately put an end to the Joker once and for all.
As he was recovering in the hospital, Commissioner Barbara Gordon told Tim that he was completely innocent in whatever the Joker had done while he was in control of his body so they would be able to cover it up. Tim told Terry that if there had to be one person who could wear the Mantle of the Bat, it would have to be Terry himself. Moments later, Bruce had shown up; as Terry left to patrol the city Tim, Barbara and Bruce would finally mend fences.
This Boy Wonder hasn't gone through the aforementioned events involving The Joker, having only been on patrol one night prior to his arrival into the Digital World. Now, having been in the Digital World for over a year and also finding out about the tragic future he would suffer in Terry McGinnis' time, Robin must work through his inner fears of possibly becoming the Joker in his own alternate world...or if he were to have his way and realize his own personal dream, Tim might become a symbol of good and earn the Mantle of the Bat as he grows up...!
Robin's Personality: Tim's personality is similar to Bruce and Dick's but in different ways. As Robin he's always focused on whatever he's working on, enjoys life-and the mission-as only a 13-year old can and is generally a good person. As shown above, he can get mad if you push his buttons too hard but he'd apologize if he realizes that he's in the wrong.
Tim also likes reading comic books and enjoys playing video games whenever he can. He wouldn't outwardly show it, but he does care for his family ever since they've taken him in. Though he'll occasionally clash with Batman on certain views, Tim does have respect for Bruce; as stated above, Tim looks up to Dick as a role model since he was the first Robin. When the two of them are hanging out, their relationship is like two brothers. Tim and Barbara's relationship would be like that of an older sister, and like Bruce, Barbara and Dick, Tim cares for Alfred in the same manner. Before his unexpected trip into the Digital World Tim hadn't really found girls to be all that attractive, only falling for a 'girl' he'd met while saving her - Annie. The relationship, if one was found at all, was a doomed one as she was a part of Clayface and therefore, not real. Tim refuses to believe as such to this day.
Tim's most recent, and first, relationship was with a member of Team W.I.T.C.H. - Irma Lair. Despite him being constantly busy when it comes to patrols and her having to deal with being the 'wait-at-home' girlfriend, Tim did his best to maintain their relationship for nearly a year. Things fell through literally and figuratively when they had a fight over the 'Comms and Irma disconnected mid-argument. Tim took it to mean that their relationship was over and didn't bother trying to get in touch-until he'd found out that she was data frozen. He stopped by once to drop off his costume and left, not even hearing that she had unfroze days later. Recent events have brought Tim to the lowest point in his life, believing that all of the members of Team W.I.T.C.H., Elyon included, were killed when the Jedi Temple was destroyed which ensues that he and Irma would never get to reconcile what they once shared. He is currently attempting to grieve and heal his broken heart, starting with another girl he'd grown close to-Terra, a close friend who had also lost someone very close to her when the Temple was destroyed. In this case, the relationship he shares with Terra is more of a brother/sister-type than a romantic one...quite literally, as near the end of August, Tim & Terra have officially become siblings who now share the last names of Drake-Markov.
Robin's Abilities: Robin's been trained in crime-fighting styles that Bruce and Dick were taught in their earlier days. Though he also knows the more recent styles too, especially when it comes to cuffing someone; since working with Batman, Robin has gone through extensive training on that particular subject, having had to cuff someone's hands and legs together while blindfolded and with one hand behind his back! Like his mentors, he won't take a life by any means. He also knows things that he had learned on the streets prior to being taken in by Batman-math on the racetracks, chemistry in a methane lab and reading at the post office-making sure that his father and his friends weren't on the Most Wanted list.
